There are things in Primrose Wood that are easily missed. A mark in the snow. A note tucked somewhere unexpected. A path on a map that does not quite match the one beneath your feet.
Tilly’s monthly letters for ages 7–10 are created for curious children who are ready for a little more to read, notice and work out for themselves.
Each month, an envelope addressed to your child arrives through the post with a new letter from Tilly and another story from Primrose Wood to step into. Alongside it, they might find a map, a field note, a curious fragment, a challenge to unravel or something that raises more questions than it answers.
There are stories to follow, details to notice, connections to make and things worth keeping. As the months pass, familiar places and objects may reappear, and children who look closely might begin to spot things they have seen before.
Each monthly envelope includes:
- 1 story-led letter from Tilly
- 1 original hand-illustrated scene from Primrose Wood
- 1 story artefact to examine, use or keep
- 1 monthly challenge, puzzle or investigation
- 1 collectable story card
- Hidden details and clues to look out for
- Occasional extra paper treasures and keepsakes
- An envelope addressed to your child by name
Each month can be enjoyed on its own, so children can join Primrose Wood at any point in the year. Those who stay a little longer may begin to notice that some stories, objects and discoveries have a habit of finding their way back.

What arrives each month?
Every envelope contains a new part of the story, with the contents changing as the adventure unfolds.
-
A letter from Tilly
A new story from Primrose Wood, written especially for older readers and filled with the familiar characters, places and small happenings that make the wood feel real.
Children can read independently, share it with a grown-up, or do a little of both.
-
An original illustration
A hand-illustrated scene from Primrose Wood, filled with details worth looking at properly.
Some are simply part of the picture. Others might become rather more important later.
-
Something from the story
Each month includes a tangible piece connected to what has happened in Primrose Wood.
It might be a map, a note, a field record, a list, a rubbing, a fragment or something else entirely.
-
A challenge to follow
A reason to look closer, solve something, notice a connection, make a decision or follow an idea a little further.
Nothing feels like homework. It is simply another way into the story.
-
Something to collect
Children will find pieces designed to be kept, revisited and gathered over time, creating a growing record of their adventures in Primrose Wood.
-
And sometimes something unexpected
A particularly important discovery does not always fit neatly into the usual envelope.
A story that continues
Each month's letter can be enjoyed on its own, so children can join Tilly at any point in the year.
Stay a little longer, however, and more begins to emerge.
Places become familiar. Earlier details take on new meaning. Objects reappear. Questions raised one month may find their answer several letters later.
There is no test at the end and nothing children have to solve correctly. The pleasure is in noticing, wondering and seeing where the story leads.
Created for ages 7 to 10
These letters have been designed for children who are beginning to want more from a story.
-
More to read
The stories are longer and richer than our letters for younger children, while still feeling accessible and inviting.
-
More to notice
Illustrations, letters and accompanying pieces contain details that reward a second look.
-
More independence
Children can explore much of the envelope by themselves without needing a grown-up to organise an activity for them.
-
More to come back to
Letters and story pieces are designed to be kept. Something that seemed unimportant when it arrived might be worth finding again later.
Screen-free, without feeling like an activity
There is no app to open, video to watch or QR code to scan.
Just a real envelope with their name on it, something intriguing inside and time to see where it takes them.
The monthly letters encourage children to read, imagine, notice, collect and investigate without turning those things into lessons.
The joy of receiving real post
There is something different about waiting for an envelope of your own.
It cannot be refreshed or opened early. It has travelled to the house, has their name written on the front and contains something they have not seen before.
Over time, opening Tilly's letter becomes its own little ritual.
For the grown-ups
Made for children. Designed with parents in mind.
-
Joining part-way through the year?
Absolutely.
Every monthly story is written so that a new reader can enjoy it without having received everything that came before.
Children who have been receiving letters for longer may recognise places, objects and details from previous months, but there is no need to start in January or complete a set before joining.
Primrose Wood simply carries on around you.
-
Buying for more than one child?
One envelope can be addressed to up to three children in the same household at no additional monthly cost.
If you would like additional copies of any accompanying pieces so that each child has their own, choose the relevant sibling or extra-content option where available.
-
Gifting Tilly's Letters
Monthly Letters for Ages 7–10 can also be sent as a gift.
Enter the child's details when ordering and their letters will arrive directly through their own letterbox.
There is nothing quite like receiving post when you are not expecting it.
New to snail mail subscriptions?
If you are wondering what a snail mail subscription for children actually is, we have written a gentle guide to explain what arrives, who it is for, and why receiving real post can feel so exciting for little ones.
