The den built from cushions and a bedsheet. The biscuits made on a rainy Tuesday, still warm. The story read one more time because nobody wanted it to end. The letter that arrived through the door, addressed to them, by name.

These are the moments that childhood is made of. Small, unhurried, ordinary and somehow, later, the ones that stay.

Tilly's Letters was made to be one of them.

The world inside the envelope

Welcome to Primrose Wood

Down a winding lane, past the old oak and the bend in the stream, there is a cottage with a yellow door.

This is where Tilly lives. And once a month, she sits at her kitchen table and writes.

She writes to your child, by name. She shares news from the wood - what Binks found tucked in her apron pocket, what Penny has been making in the clearing, where Pickles went on Thursday and whether the recipe worked this time. She illustrates as she goes, in watercolour, in careful detail, the kind of illustration you want to look at for a little longer.

Then she folds everything into an envelope, and she sends it.

The letter, the illustrated story card, the recipe, the activity, the stickers, all of it, posted through your door, ready to be opened together.

This is Primrose Wood. And once you find it, you find your way back every month.

what we believe

What we believe about childhood

Childhood is not a problem to be solved. It does not need more noise, more stimulation, more things to buy or download or set up.

What it needs is time. Paper and ink. A kitchen table and someone to read aloud. A recipe simple enough for small hands. A character to wonder about on the way to nursery. A small ritual that arrives through the letterbox, every single month, without fail.

We believe these things matter. Not because they are educational or developmental or improving, but because they are the fabric of a childhood that is worth remembering.

The sticker placed just there. The afternoon the jam drops went slightly wrong and nobody minded. The night the letter arrived and everyone gathered round to find out what Pickles had been up to. These are not grand moments. But they are the ones that last.

Every illustration in every envelope is an original watercolour, painted by Alison, artist, grandmother, and the hand behind the world of Primrose Wood.

Alison's work is the kind that makes you look a little longer. Gentle, detailed, full of the warmth of a world you want to step into. Each month she paints something new, following the same characters through a year of seasons and small adventures.

No two issues are ever the same.

Tilly's Letters is run by Fiona and her mum Alison, from their homes in the UK. Everything is made, packed and posted with care.

One day, the children will be older.

They will not remember the soft play. They might not remember the toy. But they will remember the morning the letter came. The recipe they made with sticky hands. The character they waited for, every month, and followed through a whole year of adventures.

Tilly's Letters is designed to become that memory.

Not something to keep up with, or complete, or report back on. Just a small, beautiful thing that arrives each month. Something to open together, whenever the moment allows, after nursery, before bed, on a slow Sunday morning with the light coming in.

A note on why

Tilly's Letters grew from a simple feeling: that childhood is worth protecting. That slowness is not a luxury. That a child who receives their own post, addressed to them, by name, from a world they love, that child knows they are thought of.

We make these letters because we believe in that feeling. In the anticipation of the letterbox. In the pause before opening. In the quiet that settles when you sit down together and begin to read.
